James Plant, Barrister at Law
I am a barrister specialising in Personal Injury, Product Liability and general tortious and/or contractual disputes. I represent individuals, businesses, organisations and insurance companies upon instruction from solicitors and also from members of the public (by Public Access).

I grew up in York before moving to London in 2000. I worked for a PR firm before a change of direction and retraining to be a barrister (law conversion, Bar School and pupillage). I have been a barrister at Farrar’s Building in the Temple since 2005.

I moved back to York in 2014 and now live near Sheriff Hutton where my wife and I are slowly but surely renovating a farmhouse and learning how to garden! When I’m not at work I can usually be found puzzling over a power tool or swinging a spade… I also enjoy weight training, running and cooking (sadly not in that order) and, whenever I can, indulge my passion for antiques by rummaging through flea markets, auctions and junk shops.
Picture herel
I mainly work from home but represent clients in court nationwide – one day is very different from the next and I split my time between advocacy in court, drafting and advising. I pride myself on being modern, flexible and approachable and I am always happy to discuss cases with my clients informally as well as acting on formal instructions.

I am a new member of Network York having joined towards the end of 2015. I was looking to meet like-minded individuals, expand my network and learn how other businesses operate and grow. I attended as a guest member one month and immediately signed up!

The group was extremely sociable and welcoming from the off. There are members who, through the group, are colleagues but also firm friends yet it never feels cliquey. What is most striking is that every member is genuinely supportive and encouraging of the businesses and ideas of other members. If one person raises a problem or spots an opportunity there is always a raft of suggested solutions or recommended people to contact.

In only a short amount of time I have been referred work for new clients, have recommended people I know to members of the group and have recommended members to people I know. Every week business is conducted between members but also between members and people they know outside of the group.

In short it’s a network that works.
